📊 Side-by-Side Comparison
🤔 Which Should You Choose?
Choose Lido if...
- You want maximum DeFi composability (stETH is accepted everywhere)
- Deepest liquidity matters — easy to enter and exit
- You prefer a battle-tested, "blue chip" protocol
Choose Rocket Pool if...
- Decentralization is your priority — permissionless nodes, no gatekeeping
- You want to run your own node with only 8 ETH
- You prefer a value-accruing token (rETH) for simpler tax
Choose Stader if...
- You want to stake across multiple chains (Polygon, BNB, etc.)
- You prefer a modular, multi-chain approach
- You want exposure to a growing protocol with competitive APR
❓ Frequently Asked Questions
Which liquid staking protocol is best?
It depends on your priorities. Lido offers the deepest DeFi integrations and liquidity. Rocket Pool is the most decentralized with permissionless node operation. Stader provides multi-chain coverage and a modular approach. There's no single 'best' — only best for your use case.
Is Rocket Pool more decentralized than Lido?
Yes. Rocket Pool has 3,000+ permissionless node operators — anyone can run one with 8 ETH + RPL collateral. Lido uses ~30 curated, professional operators selected by governance. This makes Rocket Pool significantly more decentralized at the node operator level.
What's the difference between rebasing and value-accruing tokens?
Rebasing tokens like stETH increase your balance daily — 10 stETH becomes 10.001 stETH. Value-accruing tokens like rETH and ETHx keep a fixed balance but increase in value relative to ETH over time. Value-accruing tokens are simpler for DeFi and tax tracking.
Can I run a node with Rocket Pool?
Yes. Rocket Pool lets anyone become a node operator by depositing 8 ETH (matched with 8 ETH from the pool) plus RPL collateral worth at least 10% of borrowed ETH. This creates a 'minipool' — a full 32 ETH validator you operate.
